It's a Wonderful Red Green Christmas (VHS)

Like the other Red Green specials on video, this one is just wonderful. Simple humor without vulgarity...no nudity, no violence...truly something the whole family could enjoy together. Well, most of the family would enjoy it, tho I think the little ones would have a hard time following along. Red Green, the cult series from Canada airs on PBS (atleast it always has for me), and I think it might be on the air still. I have never followed the show very closely, but I have seen a number of the specials on videos (of cars and men is hilarious.) The Christmas special is an hour of Christmas related scenes...each one a few minutes in length. From funny home repair stuff, to experts corner, to Red taking the roof of his car and making it into a one horse open sleigh...each and everyone scene is funny and entertaining. My favorite character is probably Red's geeky nephew, Harold, the "Expactant virgin," Red calls him.

Compared to the Of Cars and Men video, this isn't as funny, and the "christmas is..." scenes aren't the best either. Red is walking thru the snow talking about what Christmas is. It's funny, but not some of the best written material. I enjoy all the sayings of the series, the ones that most people can recite before they're even said...if the women don't find you handsome, they should atleast find you handy, Red always says. And, we have the obsession with duct tape...the handyman's secret weapon. Red uses duct tape on everything...even to tape the bar stool to the car floor to make the "sleigh."

In the end, I really can't relate to the sort of guys who are on this show...but when you think about it, we all can a little. Men, that is. We ARE all in this together as Red says...and most of the humor is based on simple truths about men and the difference between them and women. There are certain rooms men never go in- the kitchen (not counting the fridge) and the laundry room being two of those out-of-bounds areas for the males of the household. Red Green is truly a funny show...always entertaining, sometimes controversial with the sexism towards women, but a series both men and women could grow to love...the Christmas special is no exception. 10/10
