REVIEWS AND MUSIC PICKS BELOW

Rahsaan Patterson

This is, from what I have seen, a somewhat unknown artist. I searched the net with a bunch of different engines, putting in numerous keywords to find him, but I came up with nothing. The only information I can find on the guy is from cdnow.com, and all I know from that is that he has two albums, the one I have, which is a self titled CD that was released in 1997, and his second CD released in 1999 called Love In Stereo.

In reviewing this self titled album--This is some good music, even tho you never see anything about him on MTV, nor do you hear him on radio, I'm betting. The music is R&B, with a nice mix of fast paced tracks, along with a few really good slow tracks- like the most well known of his songs, "My Sweetheart," and another one I like a lot called "Where You Are." The guy, I have to say, has an awesome voice...and his songs are all upbeat. Not a fast beat exactly, but...somewhat uplifting. You won't listen to this CD and get depressed, that's for sure. It's just a shame this guy isn't huge, because he could totally break out with even more powerful albums...but I guess that's the way it goes. If you want to buy this CD, search for RAHSAAN PATTERSON at www.cdnow.com

Jazz Guitarist, John Pizzarelli

This new music pick is somewhat different in that it's vocal jazz. The smooth sounds of John Pizzarelli, jazz vocalist and guitarist, fill the many CDs of this music pick, and for good reason. Some say Pizzarelli isn't as much a singer as a guitarist, but his style is quite relaxing, and his voice matches his instrumental talents in every way. I must say my favorite song from Pizzarelli is a slow ballad called, "If I Had You." It's a great piece about his love for a very special woman and what sacrifices he would make for her. As I mentioned, most reviewers, magazines, websites, etc. say his vocal talent is inferior in so many ways compared to his playing of the guitar, but I disagree. I think his voice is more than beautiful, and it touches a cord deep down in my heart in so many ways. This is definitely a man I hold in very high regard.

The Soundtrack to Bonfire of the Vanities

Well....I just got my copy of the score for the film, "Bonfire Of the Vanities," from E BAY, and I love it. As with most of my musical choices lately, it's all instrumental. Not a whole lot of jazz on this one, but a lot of nice little jazz parts mixed into a lot of the songs. The bulk of the CD is a full orchestra with jazz pianist, Dave Grusin, adding his own little touch of style to it all. Dave Grusin, from what the liner notes say, did all of the music for the CD, but it's weird, because the only thing I have ever heard from him is smooth jazz (contemporary jazz.) I especially like the track "END CREDIT THEME," which is a compilation of all the various harmonies of the entire CD. As well as that track, I also enjoy the "Bonfire Of The Vanities Theme." The two songs just do something to you....more of that happy music. I am going to put some sound clips of the CD on a page soon, so look for it. The CD is not for sale anywhere, besides auction sites and such, because it went out of print, probably years ago. It's a shame, because it's great music. If you want to get a copy, go to e bay or any other online auction site and go to the music/cd/soundtrack sections, and search for Bonfire of the Vanities.

For Love Or Money film soundtrack

--- CD's I like at the moment are mainly jazz, and most of you guys probably don't wanna know about em....so I'll keep it light. I just bought this CD, the soundtrack to the 1993 film, For Love Or Money, starring Michael J. Fox and Gabriel Anwar. It's a nice romantic comedy with the guy I will always know as Alex P. Keaton, who plays a hotel concierege wanting to someday own his own hotel, The Doug.....(his name is Doug) The music from the movie, composed by Bruce Broughton is a mix of fast paced upbeat instrumental stuff, with some smooth jazz, as well as a mix of the two. The CD's last song is the ever popular, "Your Love Has Lifted Me (higher and higher)." As for jazz music goes, it's pretty normal, but there are a lot of subtle moments that just get your attention....they make you happy. You need to watch the movie along with the music to get the full sense of this. If you're not a fan of jazz, go out and rent the movie anyhow...it's a good film with romance and comedy...along with some backstabbing and betrayal......good flick. Listen to the music as you watch it, and who knows, maybe you'll like some of it afterall.
