Iraqi Elections Totally Legit
I keep hearing from the mainstream press that the Iraqi elections can't be fully representative or legitimate with such a low sunni turnout. That's nonsense. It seems the sunni turnout was low, but that means nothing. That doesn't make the elections illegitimate or not fully representative. It's like saying that the millions of green party members in the US who have really no say and no candidates that got elected are reason for the US elections being illegitimate. It's like saying the millions of, let's make it some absurd religious situation and say wiccans, who have no "voice" in government make the US elections bogus.
Just because a minority religious group had low turnout, that doesn't in any way mean that the elections aren't a success and that the new govt won't fully represent the entire nation.
Just another example of the liberals in the media trying to make the worst of a historic situation.

You're right it's not the low sunni turnout that makes the elections a sham. It's the lack of power those elected will have. What happens if those elected tell the US to stop the predawn raids or not to attack a city because they belive that the insurgants are there. My money is on the US saying "fuck you" and doing it anyway.
Who cares who's job it is to fix the potholes in a war zone?

Josh, look at what you're comparing the Sunni population to!
25% of the people in Iraq, and you are comparing them to about 0.1% of the people in the US.
There is a big difference. When a quarter of the population refuses to vote because they have no political representative to vote for, as opposed to a couple of people who believe in witches in the US, there is a major difference.
I'm sorry, but your analogies are wrong.
