Manhattanville College senior, Toni Smith
This month's dumbass of the month is a good one. Atleast I think so. This girl disgusts me. Ignorance like hers is scary. It's scary that some people can hold views that are so opposite of how the world really is. It's sad how a college senior in this country could actually claim that the U.S. flag stands for inequality...or anything bad for that matter. This girl is truly a sad example of what it means for people to be able to freely express their views in this country. You will see that she contradicts herself (she claims the flag stands for bad things, but she then says it stands for freedom and people should respect her because it symbolizes the freedom to speak out), and her logic makes no sense. You'll see why she deserves the title "dumbass."
You may have seen this story in the news (it's been covered nationally.) This college senior is on the girl's basketball team, and throughout the entire season, she has refused to face the flag during the Star Spangled Banner (she turns 90 degrees away from it, I believe.) She says she is doing this to protest what the flag stands for (tho, her statement on the issue totally contradicts this point.) For her "patriotism" as some call it (I think she may have even called it that herself), she is The Blue Site's Dumbass of the Month for February 2003. Do us all a favor and write to Ms. Smith and tell her what a dumbass she truly is!
Okay, now. Let me get this straight. She says that others must accept what she's doing, because it's her right, and the flag stands for that. YET, she contends she refuses to face the flag that gives her that right because it stands for "the inequalities that are embedded into the American system." Which is it? Does it stand for freedom or for these so called "inequalities??" Remember folks, this is a college senior. Guess it goes to show you that being a college graduate means nothing when it comes to intelligence! This pathetic little bratty girl (who has no true hold on reality) is doing nothing but making herself look like an ass. She is clearly starved for attention, and she must get it anyway she can. Millions of people each year risk life and limb to come into the United States from around the world. Why? Must be because of the damned "inequalities" that the flag stands for, huh? Maybe this girl should do some research on the flag to see what it really stands for. It doesn't stand for any pro-war opinion. It doesn't stand for inequality. The flag doesn't stand for every position held by every politician. Her logic is highly flawed, which is clear from her childish protest. She is turning her back on a symbol of freedom, a flag that represents a free society that allows halfwits like her to throw their baby tantrums on the court...that allows her to express her distorted view of reality. Maybe this immature girl (no name calling here, these are statements of fact) should leave the United States if it's so bad. The flag symbolizes a country that affords her the right to act like an idiot, and it also affords her the right to get on the next plane out. She can go over and try her luck in Iraq, or maybe China-some place where they would have her killed for speaking out against the government like she's doing. I guess it's not so full of inequalities afterall- hell, she has the right as a woman with a minority opinion to act a fool...you think Manhattanville College teaches the meaning of inequality? Guess she was sick that day...
