CSI DVD
REVIEW
By Simon Oxdale
Hi, Thanks for the site. Full of great info - thought I'd tell you about somethings you may not be aware of from the UK.
The first CSI DVD box set has been released about a month or so ago in the UK. As far as I can tell, the box set has not yet been released in the US... Click here to see the UK Amazon listing for it, if you have a region free player I'm certain they'll deliver. http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/tg/stores/detail/glance/-/dvd/B00006421Y /026-3806084-8772418
Anyhow - few notes about the DVD. It is beautifully packaged in a three disc digipak, very similar to "The West Wing" packs we've also had released and covers the following episodes; Pilot, Cool Change, Crate & Burial, Pledging Mr. Johnson, Friends and Lovers, Who are you?, Blood Drops, Anonymous, Unfriendly skies, Sex Lies and Larvae, the I-15 murders and Farenheit 932. The package is held together by a cardboard retaining band emblazoned with "Crime Scene: Do Not Cross", mimicking the tape we see in the show. There is a small booklet containing pictures of the cast and precious little information about the show, but does have a cool cover that is heat sensitive and retains your fingerprints! Cool! All the discs have the same animated menu showing a CSi office, depending which option you click takes you to a different desk. The picture quality is hard to judge due to the fancy filters and stylistic decisions made when making the show, but on the whole it is crisp and clear. The sound, whilst only Dolby Stereo (Dolby 2.0), is also more than adequate. The extras are few and of limited value - shotgun interviews with the cast members reveal little and are (frankly) a little dull. The Behind the scenes is actually some edited together video footage from behind the camera showing the crew at work both in the city at night, and in the desert during the day. Both show Danny Cannon looking frazzled and Billy Petersen acting up to the camera at one point. But I don't care about the extras - we've got 12 hours (approx) of high quality drama for £30 (about $50) which is cracking value. I'm looking forward to the next box as Channel 5 (who run the show over here) is hard to get in my region, so will have to get my fix from DVD! The most interesting aspect of the DVDs is the absence of The Who's "Who Are You?", instead we get what seems to be a specially composed piece of music - even though Pete Townshend and The Who are credited in the end titles... Weird. I can only put it down to licencing issues. I actually prefer the DVD music as it seems less cheesy, but then again I am British! Keep up the good work, if you want any further info on the DVDs then drop us a line, and I'll see what I can do. I believe set two is out before the end of the year...
