Brand New As Told By
Ginger Message Boards
As Told by Ginger is
an animated series on Nickelodeon. The show features Ginger, a
young girl in jr. high school who is stuck between her friends
and an attempt to make friends with the most popular girl in
school, Courtney Gripling. Tho the show is based around Ginger
and her two best friends, Dodie and Macie...I find the subplots
featuring Carl (Ginger's brother) and Hoodsey much more
entertaining. Other characters in the show include, Miranda, the
snobbiest girl in school, who is always Courtney's best friend;
Darren, the awkward boy with braces, who is Ginger's best guy
friend; and Ginger's mother...a nurse who seems to have been a
feminist at one point in her life. The show airs on the weekends
and on some weekdays on Nickeloden...the schedule changes all the
time. You can be sure to catch it Sunday night on Teen Nick tho.
AS TOLD
BY GINGER FACTS ( Trivia)
- The series
takes place in the city of Sheltered Shrubs (this is a
fictional city)
- The Foutley
house is at 711 Forest Avenue, Sheltered Shrubs, CT 06930
(we find this out from the envelope that held the letter
from Ginger's dad in the episode "Hello Stranger,"
and it is also mentioned in the ATBG movie, "Summer
of Camp Caprice.")
- Ginger's dad's
(Jonas) address is: (we learn fhis from the episode
"Hello Stranger" as well.)
- The Foutley's
phone number is 555-2517 (as seen in episode: "Nurses
Strike" when Lois puts a sign for her cleaning
business in the window of the car...) Ginger takes down
the flyer in the window so Courtney and Miranda won't see
it. Lois tells her she was thinking of a name for the
business- Lois' Spit and Shine.
- Lois (Ginger's
mom) works at Sheltered Shrubs Memorial as a nurse.
- Carl used to
have a dog named Monster (hence the name on the doghouse.)
We find this out during the episode- SUMMER OF CAMP
CAPRICE. He talks about how Monster was stolen years
before.
- Ginger and
Carl's father (Jonas) appeared in the Christmas Special
episode dressed as Santa Claus. It seems that he and Lois
are divorced and the kids rarely see him (as is evident
from the episode, "Hello Stranger.")
- In the episode
"Nurses Strike," we find out that Lois (Ginger's
mom) used to live in New York City after her sophmore
year of nursing school. She sublet an apartment...worked
by day and danced all night. She was kind of a legend for
the summer, she tells Ginger.
- Courtney and
Macie take advanced French at Lucky High School. (episode:
"The Right Stuff")
- Sasha is the
boy from Camp Caprice that Ginger liked. His little
sister is named Melanie, and Ginger befriends her as well.
Sasha shows up again in the episode "Ginger's Solo."
- Miranda's
father is the head drill seargent at the camp across the
lake from Camp Caprice
- Mipsey Mipson's
first name is actually Melissa
- Lois's nickname
is Lola (pretty much only used by Carl)
- Hoodsey and
Dodie's mom is named Joanne Bishop, but Carl is always
calling her JoJo.
- Joanne Bishop
runs a book club in her house...Carl and Hoodsey put an
end to it with the moldy eggs in a jar that they opened
in Hoodsey's room. They were supposed to wait till High
School to open it, but Carl said he was driven to extreme
measures.
- Dodie's name is
actually Deirdre (not sure about the spelling there)
- Maude (episode
"Carl and Maude") was in room 202
the girls had to do their community service at Golden
Gates Convalescent Center. (I think it's spelled wrong on
the sign tho)
NEWEST FACTS
BELOW:
Added on
July 23, 2003:
- In the episode
"And She Was Gone," Carl and Hoodsey use
disappearing powder to make a classmate named Noel
Sussman disappear. They discover that she's really weird,
and actually very much like them, so they try to save her...Noel
has made an appearance in tons of episodes in the
background of Lucky Elementary. You can constantly see
her walking by or sitting in class- I will try to get a
list of all the episodes she appears in.
- This is pretty
common knowledge, but I'll add it anyhow. Robert Joseph
Bishop, who is Dodie's younger brother and Carl's best
friend, is nicknamed Hoodsey...clearly having that name,
because he always has his purple hooded sweatshirt on.
- In one episode,
Carl calls Hoodsey- Hoods P. Bishop, but
his middle name is Joseph (his mother calls him by his
full name a few times.) I'm not sure what the deal with
the P. is.
- Two actors who
did voices on the show died during production of the
series. Kathy Freeman, who voiced Mrs. Gordon, Carl and
Hoodsey's teacher, died August 23, 2001 of lung cancer.
Also, I'm pretty sure the actor who voiced the chemistry
teacher (his name suddenly slipped my mind) died too.
They dedicated an episode to both actors.
