Fred Barnes, tonight on Special Report, said exactly what I was thinking of this BS memo out of the UK. The left is foaming at the mouth (and turning their brains off in the process) over all of this. John Kerry says he will bring impeachment charges against the president, along with other loony lefties due to this.
The problem with this memo (that merely contains the impressions of a secretary present based on 2nd hand information from others talking ABOUT the president) is that it tells us nothing. Well, it tells us one thing- that the intelligence was weak. This isn't breaking news.
In the memo, the conspiracy nuts are concentrating on one sentence that says something about the intelligence would be set around the idea already in place- regime change in Iraq. Many are interpreting the sentence as meaning they lied about intelligence.
Regime change was the official policy since 1998 (in the Clinton white house), and military action was the best option available after Security Council Resolution 1441 that called for "serious consequences" against the regime if it didn't "fully" cooperate. Hans Blix told the sec council that Hussein's Iraq did NOT "fully comply" and that his compliance was nowhere near where it had to be.
So, we know the policy was regime change for years (even before Bush), and we knew that a military option would have been the only possible method of actual regime change.
So, back to the one sentence...the lefty loonies attack on this point, but refuse to mention- if this was proof anyone lied about intelligence, one would have to throw their brains out (or shut them off temporarily) and claim that the administration is SO evil and SO clever that they fixed the intelligence, not only of the US, but from France, Germany, the UN itself, MI6 in the UK, etc.
As I've said before- all parties involved agreed on the intelligence issue. Hussein had WMD, and he wasn't complying with the 1991 Gulf War cease fire agreement, and he wasn't living up to his responsibilities in destroying all WMD and proving it had all been destroyed and that none of it was hidden or concealed anywhere in Irsq. 16 or 17 resolutions (16 I think?) over nearly 12 years...with over 20 letters from the president of the sec. council, and still no progress. UN inspectors in and out of Iraq for years and years, but no end in sight. No one in their right mind can think that anything BESIDES removal via military action wasn't the only choice the UN, the US, etc. had.
So, with the memo- we have nothing...unless it actually reveals one of the largest and most complex lies in history (it doesn't), and unless Bush fixed the intelligence of MANY nations (including the UN itself), and fooled EVERY member of Congress as well...it's just not possible, and it's 100% illogical to take this stance on the issue regarding the one sentence from the memo. Which is why the US media isn't all over this. No one can claim the MSM is a friend to Bush, so we know if any of the US outlets found this to be anything at all, they'd be all over night and day. They're not, which should tell you something.
The loony lefties will continue to be all over this, keeping their brains in the 'off' position, refusing to see ALL of the evidence as a whole, and how illogical their thinking has to be if they take all of as a whole...they'll keep attacking the president, because that's all they're good at lately. We'll have some majory democratic senators come forward and demand answers, even tho the answers have already been given time and time again. In the end, tho, nothing changes- the intel was flawed (or partly flawed at least, reports are out now that banned weapons have gone missing in Iraq just in the past few days), but the downing street memo will still be no big deal, and still the facts will remain- no one lied, no one coerced, and it was all on the up-and-up.
but there wasn't any wmds found. not only that he had far less nuke tech. than iran, north korea, or libya. i respect your opinion but i dont think that you are being very honest with yourself. if the memo proves to be true, how will you feel about bush then? will you still support him & the fact that of this date there are over 1700 kids dead for a flawed agenda. if he lied i feel sorry for all of you who have supported him.
the sooner we impeach him the better
