Septums and Deviations

(325 Words) Posted at June 22, 2005 06:42 AM in My Life .

From the 'because everyone wants to know' file...

I never knew what a deviated septum really was...but a few mins ago, I was thinking about how the inside of my nose is curved (one side is semi-blocked due to the cartilage curving to one side)...a quick google search and I learn that this is exactly what a deviated septum is. I notice it slightly affects my breathing when I close one side of my nose, which makes sense...but I don't think that it has any major affect overall.

Point is- I'm always dizzy, feel dizzy and light headed when I move my head around (if I were to move my head back and forth, right to left repeatedly right now, I'd make me a bit dizzy, and if I moved it back and forth quickly over and over, I'd have to lie down.) That limits my ability to perform any quick movements really...and even on a regular day when I'm just sitting around with no movements like that, I often times feel dizzy...searched to see if this caused dizziness, but I don't see any site saying so. I see headaches listed as a symptom, and I often times have headaches where it feels like my eye is going to pop out! So maybe that's the cause...or maybe not. Hard to tell either way.

I read a few weeks ago that most of the time, patients that complain of dizziness never figure out what it is that is making them dizzy, so they never figure out how to treat the problem. Quite annoying, especially when the feeling of dizziness can totally knock you out of any situation when you're forced to lie down and close your eyes...really puts a damper on the naked volleyball matches with the bikini team, tho in that situation I guess being forced to lie down isn't really so bad.
