Wimps. Every single one of them, both sides of the aisle. The death toll is starting to alarm more people?! 1700 dead in how long...2 years? That's ridiculously small. These men and women in government who demand a troop pullout and a timetable for such a pullout would have never made it thru WWI, WWII, or Vietnam...what on earth would they have said when 20, 000 men died in a single week?! We are fighting a war here, people! Death is a part of war...did you all forget that? The American people have largely become wimps and the legislators are following suit...or are their never ending negative comments affecting the public and causing the public to wimp out?
A time table for a pull out is the worst idea possible, and it's fairly obvious that those calling for such a thing know nothing of the military or how to fight and win wars. You can't call for a certain time to pull out troops, because the enemy will use that to his advantage. This is basic warfare and it's basic common sense! Obviously, not all members of Congress have any common sense. You can't announce to the enemy- we're going to start a troop pullout on October 1! That's insane, it endangers all of our men in battle, and it puts all of us in peril as well. The enemy will simply wait until the pullout date, then attack like crazy...which leaves us with what after that? A broken nation that is a breeding ground for a new Saddam to come in and take power...at which time, he will have the resources of an entire nation behind him and his army? Ready to attack the US and our allies whenever he pleases? Which will, of course, bring us back to Iraq to fight yet again...these people don't seem to use their brains all too often.
You cannot call for a troop pull out and give a time table- it destroys our plans, and it strengthens the enemy. You also cannot be alarmist about 1700 deaths in 2 years, when some wars in our past would bring tens of thousands in a single week!! The leaders need to get more resolve, and the people themselves need to stop being such wimps and open their eyes to realize- we're in a war, we're fighting a ruthless enemy. Believe it or not, people WILL die and it WON'T be pretty. Once the American people and our leaders learn that lesson, the sooner we will be able to pull out and take a complete victory. Those on the other side of this issue, alarming the public while making open plans for the enemy to take advantage of only destroy the will to fight even further and put all of our lives in jeopardy.
