Travis County, Texas District Attorney Ronnie Earle, who is investigating Tom Delay recently directed some comments at the Congressman while speaking at a fundraiser held by the Democratic political action committee, Texas Values in Action Coalition during an event on May 12. Earle said of DeLay:
"This case is not just about Tom DeLay. If it isn't this Tom DeLay, it'll be another one, just like one bully replaces the one before...This is a structural problem involving the combination of money and power. Money brings power and power corrupts."
Earle helped raise over $100, 000 for the group, and he says he can't remember speaking at any other group like this. An elected Democrat, Earle has said that there is no political motivation behind his investigations. He would look into wrongdoing by anyone who he suspected might be guilty of such things. But, his actions are looking purely political.
Is it even ethical for a district attorney to comment on those he is investigating? It doesn't seem like it could be.
He blasts the process of "money and power," yet raises a hundred grand for this Democratic group. How's that for irony?
This is looking more and more like a move that is purely political in nature, and that is deinitely unethical of a DA.
