NC Wesleyan Refuses to End Hate on Campus

(712 Words) Posted at May 3, 2005 11:26 PM in Current Events .

NCWC issues statement about Prof Jane T Christensen. The president's statement is a slap in the face to the students and alumi of the college. He says that most Americans don't agree with what Christensen says (that Jews are planning to overtake the world, that they plotted and acted out the attacks on 9/11, and that world Jewry is conspiring to attack the US), but that she has a right to teach that sort of garbage. Does she tho? Shouldn't a college find professors that actually teach FACTS? Shouldn't anti-semitism from professors be punished? Shouldn't young students be able to go to class without having to hear a professor teach them lies she got from radical anti-American and anti-semitic websites?

In his statement, the president says:

"The College fosters just and fair treatment for all groups in our society and does not condone hatred or violence of any kind. We seek to foster Judeo-Christian values."

"We endeavor to ensure, however, that what is taught accords with the standards of each profession and discipline."

When did hate for the jews become a way to foster "just and fair treatment for all groups" and how is it that the college "does not condone hatred or violence of any kind," tho that's exacly what Christensen does on a daily basis?? How does the president come to this conclusion based on the fact that Christensen makes it clear that she despises the Jews and that she despises this country itself? I'm also not sure of what "Judeo-Christian values" he's speaking of...because hate for the Jews isn't a Judeo-Christian value by any stretch of the imagination.

His comments about standards is also quite troubling. It's a standard for political scientists to teach that facts aren't imporant and that hateful conspiracy theory is a good lesson plan? Is he out of his mind?!

He does say that a group of political scientists will look at her teaching to see if it meets standards, but he also says that they will be out of the light of publicity. I can't see a serious inquiry taking place, since the rest of his statement basically defends Christensen's right to teach anything she pleases.

With his statement, overall, it's as if the college's president said- we have no standards when it comes to our teachers, they can teach whatever they want, be it fact or fiction...they can espouse hate for Jews, hate for America, hate for democracy, etc. and that's okay. With his statement, it seems to me that President Newbould has no respect for the students or the alumni. His refusal to stop the anti-semitism and anti-Americanism from Christensen means one thing- Newbould needs to pack his bags and find a new job. An inquiry is pointless. Of course Christensen will suddenly change her lesson plans and drop anti-semitism, as well as anti-Americanism and teaching "facts" from conspiracy theorists from her teachings, and there is too much evidence of hate already present to allow her to stay in the classroom.

A college president who allows hate and fiction to be taught on his campus as fact is no better than the professor teaching such garbage, and when his response to such obvious hatred is to appoint a board of inquiry that will surely find no fault in the teaching, you know that it's probably about time for him to update his resume and leave as well...Unless the inquiry is serious and composed of a group that isn't sympathetic to Christensen's warped views. Even then, an inquiry is meaningless, because too much evidence is already out there that this professor is teaching fiction as fact, and teaching that hatred for a group of people is good, sound political science. She must go, and if Newbould refuses to rid his campus of such hatred, he must follow.

Contact President Ian D.C. Newbould, and tell him that hate cannot be tolerated on his campus. He must fire Professor Christensen. An inquiry into her teaching isn't good enough. The abundance of evidence of hatred on her own college run website is enough to know that she's not fit for her job.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This is as introductory course in American government and politics. It is designed to provide the student with a basic understanding of American governmental institutions and processes in context of the historical events that shaped them, specifically Jeffersonian democracy. It is expected that the student will acquire sufficient understanding to evaluate political events and issues. It is hoped that this understanding will instruct the student in his role as citizen and in his efforts to shape political outcomes.

Because of the impact of the bombing of the World Trade Center and Pentagon, and subsequent wars on Afghanistan and Iraq, the War on Terror, and preparations for war on the rest of the world, this course will incorporate various phases of the so-called "war on terrorism" into our analysis of American politics. We will focus specifically on how the "war on terrorism" has granted unprecedented powers to the president, bypassed Congress and courts, and how it has undermined the Constitution and Bill of Rights, and specifically how it is moving us in the direction of a police state.
