More on Comments from Newspaper Guild President Foley

(806 Words) Posted at May 20, 2005 09:08 AM in Journalism .

A semi-complete report on Linda Foley's attack on the US military.

From the Newspaper Guild's sexual harassment section of their site (why they have a sexual harassment section, I've no idea.) I was checking their site (which seems to be left wing, which is odd, after the idiotic comments from the head of that group who recently said the US military is targeting journalists in Iraq (as I mentioned yesterday, but I'm too tired to link to that post.)

Are you being sexually harassed? Examples are:

Sexually offensive materials or objects such as pictures or posters in the workplace

  • Verbal abuse
  • Comments about a person's body or clothing
  • Touching, grabbing, or staring at body parts
  • Threats to your job such as loss of assignments, loss of promotion, retaliatory discipline or loss of job, if you do not agree to sexual demands
  • You're not allowed to make a comment on someone's clothing? And, how do you punish someone for "staring"? Can staring even be a form of harassment? He was staring at me! Make him stop!

    Anyhow...

The Newspaper Guild is clearly a left-wing outfit...as you notice on their site, their version of "news headlines" are links to sites like alternet and editorials from the old angry hag, Helen Thomas (one I see listed on their page is an attack on President Bush in which the foolish Thomas says:

As a lifetime liberal who grew up in the Great Depression and saw the suffering, I find the lack of true compassion in this administration appalling. The budget cuts in social programs, the campaign to destroy Social Security and overtime, attempts to wipe out the civil service system, keeping the minimum wage frozen, the biggest tax cuts for the richest people in the country, millions without health insurance—all testify to the social darwinism that goes back to Ronald Reagan.

I think maybe Thomas is SO old, she's become insane...then again, she's always had this idiotic approach to "news" (even tho she's now strictly an editorial writer.)

    This liberal liar continues:

Every day, from the sacrosanct podium in the press room, Bush or his press officers said in one breath “Sadam Hussein 9-11,” which wasn’t true—but hey, where is the outrage on the part of the American people once they were led down the garden path? Not even a whimper!

Bush never once said that Saddam Hussein was involved with the 9-11 plot, and Thomas knows it. She calls Bush a liar for things he never even said! Where is the outrage by the American people? Well, since you're lying and making up events that never took place, there shouldn't BE any outrage to begin with. Americans don't get outraged at imaginary events that take place in your head, Helen.

Thomas goes on to show her hate for Bush:

Yes, America did start an unprovoked war. And the press remained mute. It bought the fear card, no questions asked. Thousands of Iraqis are dead and 1,500 Americans have made the ultimate sacrifice as the press fell down on the job.

We started "an unprovoked war"? Thomas must not have seen the news of the first gulf war and the cease fire agreement that was signed after that ordeal...the blatant refusal to live up to the terms of that cease fire, the banning of weapons inspectors from sensitive sites for over a decade, 16 UN resolutions demanding compliance, over 20 letters from the Security Council president demanding compliance, the daily attacks by Iraq on US and British flights patrolling the no-fly zone, the assassination attempt by Hussein on George H. W. Bush, and on and on...Did I mention that Thomas might be so old that she's gone insane?

She also claims that the US press was "mute" on the war, yet we all know that Bush was hammered daily by the MSM on the war and their bogus claims of things he never said (such as Thomas does herself here!) Is Thomas incapable of honesty?

Isn't this propaganda from Thomas and others like her proof enough that the Newspaper Guild is a radical liberal outfit that isn't even willing to be honest about the news to begin with? That much is clear to me, and this took 10 minutes of investigation.

I have to add. On the issue of reporting this story- I have to laugh at sites (blogs) that mention that they called the Guild to talk to Foley after she made her ignorant comments. That's like calling a major newspaper and demanding to speak to the editor or even the publisher. "Yes, Playboy- put Hef on the line, and hurry it up!" Come on, folks, the media is changing, but none of us are Tom Brokaw for heaven's sake.
