Filibuster Showdown: Dems Continue the Lies

This is disgusting. Sickening and disgusting.

Charles Schumer is speaking with the Congressional Black Caucus right now, and he says the framers intended judicial filibusters...if you didn't have a filibuster for nominees, minorities would have no rights. He had to bring up civil rights, as if this nonsense was paramount to the issue of civil rights for black Americans! The dems see themselves as God-like figures, I assume. God-like figures who go thru torture and suffering to do what's right and protect those minority rights we keep hearing about. Hell- Americans elected a Republican President, a Republican House, and a Republican Senate, but to hell with the wishes of the people- let's claim suffering, let's claim an overreaching of power on the part of the right!

Schumer went on to say:

"Minorities have rights, even if the majority says they don't."

This gives you a good idea just how nutty (and shameless) this guy is. He and his colleagues will stoop to new lows to push their unwanted ideology on the American people.

Clearly, the way he words it, he's implying Republicans want to refuse rights to minorities in general (read: blacks).

He went on to claim that Bush's judicial nominees are far out of the mainstream, but I blew that argument apart just yesterday, and the facts are clear- these judges are right IN the mainstream, it's the democratic party that is OUT of the mainstream, and while they claim minority rights (make it thru the suffering, you brave souls!) are being trampled on, they're attempting a coup of sorts. They want a super majority for judges to appeals courts now, when that has never been the standard in the Senate, and it was never intended to be the norm.

Shameless idiots.

He claims Republicans want TOO much power...yet, his party is the side trying to take complete power. How can you demonize a nominee and refuse him or her a vote for FOUR YEARS and claim that the other side wants to steal all the power? The democrats have started the government shutdown (I think they reported that 30 committees didn't meet yesterday due to the obstruction from the left), and it will only get worse. I hope the Republicans demand the democrats put action behind theit threats, let them shut the government down, and sit back while Americans demand the democrats stop acting like children and do the people's work.

UPDATE: Tom Harkin made the bogus claim that the filibuster on judicial nominees is 214 years old. He also claimed that all that they're doing is giving enough time to debate the issue (4 years isn't enough time to idiots like Harkin.) He went on to claim that Republicans will be "breaking the rules" in changing the obstructionist ways. For more than 2 centuries, Senate rules have respected "minority rights," and if Republicans demand a vote one way or another, all that will be destroyed.

The US Congress is now officially a joke. These people make hundreds of thousands of YOUR dollars to act like silly little children who refuse to even be honest. I am sickened by all of this.

UPDATE 2: Harkin continues to distort rate of approval. He claims 95% of all Bush's nominees have been approved, but he knows quite well that the situation is - only 67% of Bush's appellate court judges have been approved- the lowest rating of any recent president.

Harkin says demanding an up or down vote will be "the end of the senate as we know it."

By demanding a vote, the Republicans are "sewing the seeds of anarchy."

Harkin decides to suddenly attacl Tom DeLay...Tom DeLay's rules (according to Harkin) is "anything goes." DeLay "tore up the rules [in Texas.]"

Harkin is concerned about what message this all sends to everyone- mothers, husbands, children, business people...if you allow people to break the rules in the senate, anyone will think it's okay to do it.

The final point is- Democrats are starting to shut down government and say they plan to completely shut down the government over this. I say to the Republicans- let them do it. Allow them to look like babies in front of the American people. The American people will NOT stand for it. Democrats will lose even more than they have in the past 5 years. Keep acting like children- dig your hold deeper.

UPDATE 3: Dick Durbin just used the distorted number of judges approved, never mentioned Bush has the lowerst appeals courts nominees given a vote. He also repeated the bogus claim that the judicial filibuster is 214 years old.
