John Edwards Lashes Out

John Edwards is speaking out...on a number of issues. From his disapproval of the Bush tax cuts and overall tax policy (a democrat railing against lower taxes? Shocking...), to his opinion on Condoleezza Rice (he doesn't like her and would have voted to not support her as secretary of state- dems always claim to be the party that is all about minorities, yet Edwards would have voted down the first black female sec. of state?) He also lashes out at those rascally Republicans and the mysterious memo that popped up in regards to the Terri Shiavo case...

My question is- doesn't Edwards follow the news? It was revealed that the legal counsel to Sen. Mel Martinez was the one who wrote the memo, and he has since resigned his position because of it. This was a mere staffer for a republican senator, it wasn't a conspiracy by Republicans to use this issue as a political tool. The fact is- Republicans, as a party, have always been on the side of life- against abortion, for traditional family values, usually religious people that believe life itself is a gift from God. We know from ideology, history, and common sense that Republicans, as a whole, never used this as a political issue, and that they were acting on firmly held beliefs. Not to mention, the dems voted in support of the bill for Terri overwhelmingly, so this turned out not to be a political issue at all.

Many news outlets reported oddly worded polls that they claimed proved Americans would support the removal of Shiavo's feeding tube, but as Michelle Malkin and others have pointed out, when the polls were worded to reflect Shiavo's situation, it turns out the American people voted in favor of keeping her feeding tube in and standing by the sanctity of life. Which makes Edwards comments about this being a political issue and how it would hurt Republicans in 2006 and 2008 the more confusing.

“We saw the memo that went out to Republican leaders about how they could take political advantage of Terri Schiavo. That’s disgusting. They will pay a price for this in the 2006 and 2008 elections.”
