Lies About Bush Being Sent Around to Scare College Kids

More lies about President Bush. This time, scare tactics aimed at college students.

The Truth

this flyer is BS. first- raising min wage, bush IS against, but doing so hurts the lowest trained among us. the economy will keep a certain number of low skilled workers, because the fact is- the min wage is sometimes all their skill level is worth. raising min wage puts many of these low skilled workers out on the street, because the overall economy cannot bear the burden withhigher wages that dont match the skill level...so businesses are forced to shed jobs and make others take up the slack and pay them the same amt.

overtime pay, under the rules, would have changed the level at which people were paid overtime, and more people would have been added who would get overtime.

as for pell grants and financial aid- bush has increased funding for both, so the statements above are totally inaccurate. dept of education figures show the number of pell grants awarded the yr bush took office was 3.9 million...and in 2003 the number was 5.1 million, an obvious increase. spending on pell grants in particular was $8 billion in the yr he took office, and now the spending is $12.7 billion- a 60% increase.

the max pell grant aware has risen from $3, 300 to $4, 050 under Bush as well. He has promised he will raise it $1, 000 more for students who take demanding college prep courses in high school.

also, you should look into the official federal definition of "poverty." its not what you think it is. under the current definition, you can own your own house (own, payments finished!) and be considered living in "poverty."

clearly, whoever put this flyer out, is a dishonest outfit who finds it okay to spread disinformation and lies. not too shocking, but still sad.
