Scary Godmother

scary godmother halloween spooktacular

This 47 min movie aired on Cartoon Network Thursday night (I think it was Thurs)...I watched it late last night (Thurs night/Friday morning) from the DVR. I thought it was really good. It's clearly a movie aimed at a younger audience, but I really enjoyed the CGI animation- it had a really interesting look to it, really bright colors and lighting, the town looked as tho it was part animated one way and part animated a totally different way- I guess you'd have to see it for that to make sense. It was really beautifully animated, and that was cool. The characters- a little girl and her cousin, his friends...along with a scary godmother (a witch who appears out of nowhere to meet the young girl)...a bunch of "monsters" who come to the godmother's Halloween party- the vampire family, a bugaboo, the wolfman who kept eating everything, a skeleton (who sounded like a Jim J Bullock character), and a couple others who rounded out a very nice mix of personas.

Basic story of the little girl who is scared, left in a dark scary house by her older cousin on Halloween night, dared to go inside to appease the monsters in the basement with candy. A scary godmother appears and flies the girl to her magical house with her skeleton roommate (who wears a suti and a top hat), and they throw a Halloween party, and she shows the girls that monsters aren't so bad afterall- they're actually all very nice and friendly. Some of the stuff is completely aimed at a younger audience, while some of the dialogue is actually grown up enough to sit thru and enjoy...even the kid stuff is sophisticated enough to make it all really nice.

I'd really like to see more stuff animated in this style...especially Halloween-related animation which is usually really cool overall.

On another subject (sorta)...I want to see that movie, SAW. I love horror movies, and this one looks interesting, tho from what I read- the plot has major holes in it, and that might not be good. It comes out Oct 29, I think. I also want to see TEAM AMERICA, but never got around to going last week like I planned...and SHAUN OF THE DEAD- tho I'm not even sure if it's still playing.
