Probably the WORST of all our former presidents, Jimmy Carter (left wing loon, who wouldn't have agreed that taking on Hitler was a good idea) said the following on MSNBC's Hardball:
The man is so far out there in his no war nonsense, that he believes even the Revolutionary War in which this very nation gained its independence was an "unnecessary war." He might be even crazier than Bill 'Lewinsky' Clinton. The very fact that he called Iraq a "quagmire" was irresponsible enough. No former president has the right to speak out against a current military action during a time of war, if you ask me- you can't have former leaders attacking the current policy when men are women are in harm's way like that. The enemy sees this, and they use it against us...supposed European allies (many who have been indicted in the oil for food scandal) will use statements like this against us as well. The guy is just clueless, and it's quite scary that he used to actually be the president!

To me, what he is saying is that if the British didn't treat the colonists like trash, then there would have not been a need for war. There could have been more peaceful transitions to independence like Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc. It's sort of like saying WW2 was an unnecessary war, as Germany could have just stopped after Czechoslovakia and not been anti-Semitic. Obviously, that wasn’t the case.
The criticism is being launched at the British, not the Americans for fighting.
May I also ask what you mean by “No former president has the right to speak out against a current military action during a time of war, if you ask me,” as I could see this as nobody should have the right to question the current administration, as that would “let the terrorists win.” Criticism is one of the strongest tools of any functioning and free democracy.
Disagreeing with him is one thing, but spouting out crap like that is hypocritical. If Kerry wins the election and orders a strike that Bush publicly disagrees with, I eagerly await a post from you telling him to shut up.
