Edwards Irresponsible Promise on Stem Cells

I mentioned John Edwards awful comments in regards to stem cells (I think I mentioned it...didn't I?), and here is the quote.

Calling Reeve "a powerful voice for the need to do stem cell research," Edwards pledged Monday, "If
we do the work that we can do in this country, the work that we will do when John Kerry is
president, people like Christopher Reeve will get up out of that wheelchair and walk again."

These comments are just insane. First- embryonic stem cells, that he was speaking of, haven't had the success that adult stem cells have. From all that I have read, the stem cells that Edwards speaks of haven't been shown to do anything like the adult stem cells have. Second- every medical professional agrees, the promise that stem cells with help people walk who are unable to do so is a complete sham. We have no idea if these cells will do ANYTHING at all, and we know that if they do anything, it will be decades upon decades before they do anything significant, and they might never help people walk again. Edwards used the death of a celebrity to pander to the uninformed, and it was completely shameful. To give false hope like this is just as bad.

It doesn't matter who leads the nation- stem cells, if they ever help at all, won't do anything significant anytime soon. That's unfortunate, but it's fact.
