You can officially call Dan Rather a liar now.
He was on 60 Mins 2 tonight to comment on the documents scandal. In his small piece, he claimed that the there was no evidence to suggest that the essence of the story was false...that no evidence existed to suggest Bush WASN'T given special treatment in the guard, and he claimed that no one even disputes this. BUT- we know this isn't true. The daughter of Barnes, the man who claims he put in special favors for Bush, has come forward to say her dad is lying for political gain, and that he's trying to help John Kerry. That is clearly evidence to suggest the claims are false, and it's certainly someone dispusting the claims.
Also, another guard officer who supposedly pushed thru favors for Bush and had people sugar-coat his record most probably couldn't have done so...he was retired 18 months before he supposedly called in favors, and everyone interviewed who was with the TX air natl guard at the time has said- he never pulled thru any favors, and he had no power once he was retired. This is evidence that kills CBS' claims in general, so that means Rather was lying when he said there was no dispute as to the overall facts.
Feel free to pass the word around- Rather might have been tricked with phony documents, but tonight he flatout lied to the American people. If this isn't grounds for immediate dismissal, nothing is...and this demands that the FEC look into the issue and curb CBS' habits of false reporting.
---------------------------------
The folks running CBS news are just shameless. They're defending their story now by using the word of the secretary of the man who supposedly wrote the documents. She says that the documents are phony, but the sentiments in the documents are real...big problem with her story tho, since she's a huge partisan who hates Bush. She has gone on record saying that Bush was "selected not elected"- tho, we all know that's just absurd...she also has said Bush is unfit for office. These two comments alone make anything she says void...you can't attack Bush as an appointed president, then claim that the tone of the documents is true. She's a partisan hack who cannot be trusted on this issue...and CBS is silly to use her as a defense. CBS holds no credibility to me, and I will never trust them with news again.
I just thought I'd let you know one of my comments was deleted on a different post, but I took the time to repost it for you:
