Australia Bans Same Sex Marriage

A small victory (of sorts...)

Australia Bans Same Sex Marriage

On Friday, August 13, the Australian Senate voted to ban same sex marriage by an overwhelming vote of 38-7. The vote will alter the Australian Marriage Act to include the phrases:

“Marriage means the union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life."

"Certain unions are not marriages. A union solemnized in a foreign country between: (a) a man and another man; or (b) a woman and another woman; must not be recognized as a marriage in Australia."

The law was enacted partially in response to Australian homosexuals, married in Ontario, who expressed the desire to have their union recognized in their home country. Rather than have the issue decided in the courts, Australian lawmakers chose to explicitly ban homosexual marriage. Christian Coalition lauds this common sense action to defend the traditional family in Australia.
