Here are some of the things I came up with for my platform.
I would work to scrap the INS and either form a brand new agency to deal with the borders, or I would add it to homeland security or another agency already present.
I would work to take private donors out of political campaigns. Too many politicans are elected, because they spend more money. We need men and women in government who are there for their ideas, not the fact that they spent millions more to get elected. I would start a program to publicly finance campaigns and I would work the FCC to give free air time to those running for office.
I would work to rehaul the General Accounting Office, making it an agency that overlooked every penny spent by Congress. Today they only get involved in emergencies, and there is no government agency that tracks that trillions spent by the federal government. I would make all records of spending public and easily accessible to all Americans.
I would work to cover the uninsured by taking the waste of government and putting the money to good use. This would include elimating crooks in Congress, and constant corruption that is involved with billions of dollars spent by the government.
I would work to overhaul NASA, one of the biggest wastes of money in government. The money spent to send probes to Mars (which surely doesn't aid the American people) could be spent in programs that actually help people. I would severely limit the money NASA gets, and scrap most of the manned space program for the time being.
I would work to overhaul social security.
I would work to overhaul the IRS and the entire federal tax code. I would drastically cut taxes, which could easily be done by bringing down spending in Congress.
I would work to change the regulations used in various welfare programs, and demand that people using these programs to meet strict criteria. Too many people take advantage of the system and abuse it, wasting money that could be spent elsewhere on worthwhile projects.

So how would you propose paying off the whoping 600 billion dollar US defecit?
Posted by: HOODLUMinc at October 15, 2003 08:18 AMthe deficit only matters on paper. there will always be a deficit. drastically bringing spending down and the elimination of half of welfare (it can be done easier and more cost effective with churches and local agencies) would easily pay off whatever needed to be paid off.

LMAO...one of the funniest things you said yet.
Tell that to the people who suffer from recessions due to this defecit, or trade problems, etc etc...
It exists not only on paper, but in a world you have no experience in apparently.
"drastically bringing spending down"
Spending on what exactly?
"and the elimination of half of welfare"
How will that help the American people? What about those who actually NEED welfare. You are essentially condemning them to the streets, and further increasing the US poverty rate.
I think the inteligent thing to do with welfare would be a better evaluation process.
