Killing Marriage (a book)

Check out this article from Slate, which I rarely read anymore, since- well, since I don't trust them all that much anymore.

I couldn't even read the entire article (mainly because I didn't care to hear the woman's nonsense manner of thinking on the subject of marriage), but what I did read is just funny.

Ever think that marriages don't work today, because there are double the number of idiots getting married way before they're ready? Not to mention, we have to take into consideration the number of unwed pregnant women- a number which has clearly risen in the past half century...and that plays a role in unwanted marriages that are unwanted to begin with.

Economics also plays a role in marriages that were never made to last. More people find it necessary to get married to be able to pay for the stuff they wouldn't be able to pay for if single (an issue somewhat discussed in the book.) Marriage- I forget how the author said it, is a social disaster or whatever...basically, she says that marriage is an old idea whose time has passed, and that it can't make people happy. Highly untrue to the millions of married people who are perfectly happy in this country and around the world. Marriage is clearly not an idea of the past...tho, too many fools rush into marriage because of the moral compass that seems to point in all directions nowadays. Morality, to many, is an idea of the past- which has to play a role in marriage...marriage is SUPPOSED to be for life, but in today's culture, when so many think of right and wrong as an archaic idea that should be thrown out the window altogether, that doesn't hold true so much.

Marriage, as an institution, is failing? We need to think of society's declining morals as one reason...the rise in out-of-wedlock pregnancy, which often turns into completely unwanted wedlock, as another reason. An idea that is past its prime and on the way out? Not quite.

I was watching CNN and one of the guys in the Gimme a Minute segment said - 'This week, Tom Ridge admitted he's color blind, but says that the threat level is still at gray.' I was laughing. The same guy said that a new poll showed a rise in support for Schwarzeneggar (I'm not even going to look up his name for the spelling!) among 'idiots.'

pregnant person clothes? thats an interesting way to say it! :)

as for single parents, i think we should hang them all. that includes you. ok, im kidding. i think, of course, a family is the best place to raise children, but thats not always how it works out, and sometimes things happen. just as long as the parent takes care of the kids, which you do, so thats good. i just cant stand scumbag parents who spend all their money on booze and their 100 boyfriends who they bring in the house 24 hrs a day and leave the kids with their parents. or any other bad situation like that.

well i know what ya mean... i can't stand single parents that do that shit either... i guess i learn from other peoples mistakes...and the ones that don't put their kids first are the ones that you later see on tv makin a plea for the kidnapper to bring their kid(s) home...or their kids are running the street with guns and stealing
