Biography
Name:
America Ferrera
Nickname: Georgina (according to The Internet
Movie Database)
Date of Birth: April 14, 1984
Born in: Los Angeles
College: USC (Univ. of South California), double
major in Theatre and International Relations (started spring 2003
I think)
Hobbies: Seeing plays (as she mentioned on
Disney Channel)
America is the youngest of six children, all her siblings have
college degrees, so it was important for her to make sure she
didn't skip college for acting. She is a double major at USC, and
she says, while in school, she wants to concentrate on feature
films and movies of the week for tv. Her parents are Honduran,
and she was raised in a single parent house with her mother. Her
mother is a hotel executive who is in charge of housecleaning
staff. America has said that she grew up in her mom's office
basically. She has been in 2 feature films (Gotta
Kick It Up and Real
Women Have Curves, and she will be
appearing in Plainsong
which is a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie that will air on CBS this
fall (2003.) She also starred in the play The
Have Little. She has done school and
community plays as well.
AMERICA TRIVIA (FACTS)
America mentions in the Real Women Have Curves commentary that her high school was about a block away from her house, and she never wanted to go...she said this when speaking of her character in the film, Ana, who had to take 3 buses to get to school every morning.
America was one of a few valedvictorians of her high school class. From what I have read, her mom was strict about her doing well in school, and she had to work twice as hard with acting, training for acting, AND school on top of all of that.
America mentioned that she had a waitress job at one point to pay for her acting classes and pictures and stuff like that.
America has said that she is majoring in International Relations, because so many people in the U.S. are totally clueless about the world outside of this country, and she doesn't want to be like that.
On The Disney Channel, America said that when she goes to NYC, she has to catch at least one Broadway show.
I just read another article on America, and it says she's the youngest of six children (I knew that much), and that all but one of the children were boys...so I think America has all brothers. I wasn't sure if they were saying that one out of the six kids was a girl or one out of the other 5 (her siblings)...so, there's either one other girl in the family or just America herself. I'll try to find out. UPDATE: I just read another article about America and it says that she's the youngest of six girls. I'm confused now...If I ever find out the definitive answer, I'll be sure to post it here...
America graduated high school in 2002...she got the part in Gotta Kick It Up at the end of her junior year. The first day of her senior year was the first day shooting for Real Women Have Curves. She says that it was a tradeoff, not being able to totally enjoy her senior year like everyone else at school, but she was doing what she loved, so it was alright. She says that she felt odd going back to school after shooting the film...that she wanted to be out working again.
America attended the Summer Theatre Camp at Northwestern University in 2002 (I think it was 2002)
I will add any other facts or pieces of trivia if I get any. If you know anything about America that isn't listed here, e-mail me.
